The Natural Side Effects of Kindness.
Do something kind for others.
We all know side effects associated with over the counter or prescribed medications are usually harmful to the body. BUT are you aware of the natural side effects that come along with being Kind? No? Okay, I thought you may say so. Here are a few ways we can all benefit from being kind to one another. Get ready to live happier, longer and with a better heart. Thank me later ☺
Be. Warm & Fuzzy
Protect your heart...
So we all know about the warm and fuzzies! No? Well, let me explain. The Warm & Fuzzies is a noun, adjective, any person or thing that gives others comfort, reassurance, or a friendly feeling; also called warm fuzzy, warm fuzzies. The emotional warmth that you feel produces the hormone, oxytocin in the brain and throughout your body. It is an essential role in the cardiovascular system. What’s Oxytocin? Well without getting too bogged down in medical terms, it’s the protective hormone of the heart, which lowers your blood pressure. Therefore, being kind is a Natural Cardioprotective!
BE. WIRED FOR
Let's find out how to get wired now...
Ok, so I know I said we wouldn’t get into to medical terms but here’s one that I simply must. It’s the “Vagus Nerve!” The Vagus Nerve helps in regulating heart rate, confronts inflammation levels in the body. The Tibetan Buddhists “Loving-Kindness and Compassion” meditation found that being kind and compassionate in fact, reduces inflammation in the body, most likely due to its effects on the vagus nerve.
Make Kind life choices...
I honestly believe you are as young as you feel, feeling being operative word here. Have you noticed how incredible you feel when you're kind to others and yourself? Unfortunately, not many people recognize this because they're too busy worrying, being anxious, depressed, and outright mean to others. The aging process is a combination of many things, but the two primary factors that speed up this process are Free Radicals and Inflammation, which are the effects of making unhealthy lifestyle choices.
However, it's your choice whether or not you want to live a life of being Kind, happy, and stress-free. If you do, you can expect to slow down your aging process. These healthy life choices bring us back to the “Warm & Fuzzies” that produce oxytocin, reduces free radicals and inflammation in the cardiovascular system, and simoustanuously helps slow down the aging process at its foundation.
Spread kindness like Wildfire...
Now that we know being Kind is a natural way to be happy, healthy, live longer and have better relationships... What will you do with all this new found knowledge? I say, we go out into the world and spread this knowledge like wildfire! We can inspire one another to be kind and teach others how to be kind everywhere we go. When we act as a source of inspiration, it causes a term you may have heard of called the “Kindness Ripple Effect!”
If you take away anything at all, know that we should all want to improve our health and relationships, whether personal or professional. What better way to do this but with being kind and gaining the amazing Natural Side Effects of it all! David R Hamilton, Ph.D. tells us that kindness reduces the emotional distance between two people, which makes us feel more bonded. Ultimately, we are all wired for Kindness; it’s in our DNA!
